We've been renting these two cottages on Lake Brownwood for only a couple years. Our parents and grandparents bought the two lots and buildings in 1959.
My family used the larger house and my grandparents used the smaller house as summer cottages for several years. My mother got the larger house in the divorce settlement, installed some insulation and moved us in year around. My grandmother rebuilt the smaller cottage and moved to the lake after my grandfather died in 1974. My mom and step father lived in the larger house. My mom moved to the smaller house when my grandmother went into a nursing home and lived there until 2005. The larger cottage was used for visiting family (summers only). My mom went into a nursing home and we began offering both units as a summer rental or rentals in 2006. The Neighborhood Most houses in the neighborhood are owner-occupied year around these days. I have known the neighbors to the East practically my whole life. They have three generations living on our side of the lake. The neighborhood offers a good mixture of retirees, working people and seemingly, a new baby every year. Although quite peaceful (especially in the mornings and evenings) there is generally the soft sounds of children playing throughout the summer afternoons.
